The Basics · Speed Date Tampa

What is speed dating, really?

About ten short dates in one evening, at one table, with a host who keeps everything moving. No swiping, no small-talk marathon — just five minutes to find out whether you’d like a second conversation.

The idea

A room full of first dates, all in one night.

Instead of one long dinner with a stranger, you have a series of short dates back to back. At a Speed Date Tampa night you sit down at a numbered table and talk with about ten other singles in your age group, five minutes at a time, somewhere between Downtown and the beaches. When the bell goes, one side of the room moves on and the next conversation starts.

Five minutes sounds short until you try it. It is plenty of time to know whether you want a longer conversation — and short enough that there is never an awkward “how do I leave?” moment. Everyone in the room is single and came out to meet someone, so you can skip the guessing.

Why people like it

Apps can swallow weeks of messaging before you meet, and half the time the spark isn’t there when you finally do. Speed dating turns that around: you meet first, in person, on a Tuesday after work in Hyde Park or a Thursday across the bridge in St. Pete, and you know within minutes if there is something worth following up.

You never have to be the one who approaches

The host runs the whole evening. You are greeted at the door, shown to your table, and told exactly when to move. All you have to do is show up, relax and be yourself.

Step by step

How a Speed Date Tampa night actually works.

From walking in to seeing your matches — the whole flow.

1

Arrive & check in

Our host greets you at the door, checks you in and shows you to your numbered table. Grab a drink and settle in.

2

Your dates

About ten five-minute conversations with singles in your age group. When time is up, the host signals and the room rotates.

3

Note who you liked

After each date, quietly mark on your card whether you’d like to see that person again. Nobody else sees your card.

4

Pick your matches online

Log in afterwards and enter your picks. When two people choose each other, we share contact details — and only then.

Common questions

What first-timers want to know.

Do I have to talk to everyone in the room?

You have a short date with each guest of the gender you came to meet — about ten people. It is all structured, so you never have to work up the nerve to approach anyone. The host handles the rotation.

What if I don’t click with someone?

That is the point of five minutes. If the spark isn’t there, the round ends soon and you’re on to the next person. No pressure, no awkward exit.

How do I find out if someone liked me back?

You enter your picks online after the event. The other person never sees whether you picked them unless they picked you too. When it’s mutual, each of you can see the other’s contact details.

Will everyone be around my age?

Yes. Every night has its own age range, so you’re meeting people at a similar stage of life. Check the range in the event title before you sign up.

What about online nights?

Some nights run on Zoom. Sign up as usual, and we email you the meeting details and passcode. The host moves everyone between rooms for the five-minute dates, and you pick your matches online afterwards in exactly the same way.

Is it actually fun, or just nerve-wracking?

Everyone is a little nervous for the first date or two. By the third, the room has loosened up and it feels like a night out with a very good reason to be there. Most people enjoy it whether or not they leave with a match.

Now you know the how

Reading about it is one thing — a table of Tampa Bay singles is another. Pick a night and see for yourself.
