Tampa Bay’s Indian and South Asian community is concentrated where the newer neighbourhoods are — New Tampa, Wesley Chapel, Westchase, Brandon and Riverview — with a lot of professionals working around USF, the hospitals and the Westshore office towers. Plenty of singles, plenty of parents asking questions, and not many ways to meet someone that do not involve a family introduction. An Indian speed dating night is a way to meet on your own terms.

The night runs like every Speed Date Tampa event. Our host greets you, checks you in and seats you, and you have about ten five-minute dates with Indian and South Asian singles in your age group. Afterwards you log in and choose who you would like to see again, and we share contact details only when both of you said yes.

Language, region and religion vary across the room, and that is the point: you get to ask, in person, instead of guessing from a profile. There are no biodata forms and nobody’s aunt at the next table. Just conversation, five minutes at a time.
