Tampa Bay’s Asian communities are growing fast but scattered wide — around USF and New Tampa, out in Wesley Chapel and Westchase, across Brandon and Riverview, and over the bridges in Pinellas. Filipino, Vietnamese, Chinese, Korean, Thai, Japanese and other Asian American singles all live here; they just do not often end up in the same room. An Asian speed dating night fixes that for one evening.

It works like every Speed Date Tampa night. Our host greets you, checks you in and seats you, and you have about ten five-minute dates with Asian singles in your age group. Afterwards you log in, tick who you would like to see again, and we share contact details only when both of you said yes.

This is a mixed Asian night, not a single-background one. Nobody assumes where your family is from, and a five-minute date is exactly the right length to ask. What everyone shares is wanting to meet someone who gets it — the expectations, the food, the calendar of holidays that do not line up with anyone else’s.
